TIME magazine takes a look into the "third wave" coffee scene (link)....and even mentions Counter Culture Coffee, our roaster. It's a refreshing read and I would recommend looking back at this post and link about the "rise" and perhaps "fall" of that other company.
My take away - focus on your local community and be great doing it!

CoffeeFest - New York
March 5-7
Big Lights Will Inspire You

* I want to include Empire State of Mind by JayZ in on this post but have no clue how to include audio clips in a post, so a little humming is required.....In New York...concrete jungle where dreams are made of...there's nothing you can't do....
Big Lights Will Inspire You
CoffeeFest New York is coming up this weekend and as nerdy as it sounds, I am pumped. I guess when you become passionate about something you look forward to learning as much as you can about it. I went to the Specialty Coffee Convention last year in Atlanta and had a blast. It is a great way to learn more about the industry and meet with the leaders in the business. We want to bring the best to the Raleigh market and challenge ourselves to continually pursue cups of excellence.

Syphon - Intelligentsia Coffee and Tea: Venice, California
Things are moving forward very nicely with the shop and still anticipate having an opening sometime this summer. I have been playing around with the syphon brewing method for over a year now and have had a lot of fun with it. Jubala Village Coffee will incorporate this method of coffee brewing into the bar to make things a little bit more exciting and entertaining....and because it makes a great cup of coffee. I have about 12 of these in storage right now just waiting to be used! enjoy

Espresso - Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea: Venice, California
I like this video from the coffee roasters at Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea. The gentleman in the video throws out some alluring adjectives when describing the process of espresso making ... making the end product that much better

They tell me there is always room for one more person
I'm back from Africa...and have plenty to share. It was an amazing trip filled with exciting and interesting stories that will keep this blog alive for awhile. While I am getting adjusted with being back on this side of the world...here is a sneak peak at part of my journey...Ethiopian public transportation, where there is always room for one more person.

and I'm off
The Lafayette development is rolling forward nicely and I think I have nailed down a great architect and designer, so things are certainly going great.
I'm off to Africa today...and will try to provide updates while I am there for the next couple of weeks. If not, then I am sure I will have plenty to share when I come back....it is their peak coffee season right now. I will be in Nyeri, Kenya and Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia for most of the trip. See you when I get back!
